Flight 'n' Flash

Fewer Waxwings in the garden today, but a raging south easterly gale meant that the birds were hovering before landing, thus offering some awesome opportunities - which I duly took advantage of. Like yesterday, it was incredibly dull and overcast so the job required some serious flash. Here are a few fresh off the memory card...

Stunning stuff. What flash speed were you using? Mike

Flash was set at high speed on the 550ex so it meant I could use shutter speeds of between 1/2000 - 1/3500 sec on the body. The better beamer gave me some additional reach but as the ISO was set at between 1600 - 3200 to ensure high shutter speeds, the actual reach with a 300 f2.8 was actually very small. Cheers!
