Jack Snipes

We've had snow on the ground for over three weeks here in Shetland. I've noticed one or two Jack Snipes in the valley, but with snow-melt, they've been moving about a fair bit. The last few days however have seen sub-zero temperatures at night so I put up a hide yesterday afternoon over a small lead of open water that runs off from our septic tank. Bingo - up to three Jack Snipe feeding just a few metres away, right in front of the hide, along with amazingly close Snipe and Redshanks. Another hide further down the road - where the light is better for afternoon photography - also had a single bird. I'll try there tomorrow. Here are a few fresh out of the card...

The name Jack Snipes gives one a giggle, and then you see the beauty of the images you took and all one can do is smile, very nice!
