Tree Sparrows

We now have 8 Tree Sparrows coming to the garden feeders!

Sunday, 25 April 2010

One of the great features of the Canon 1D Mark IV is the ability of micro-adjust every lens and tele-converter combo to ensure pin-sharp images. With lots of 'small' bird photography on the agenda over the next few weeks, the day was spent micro-adjusting the Canon 800mm with 1.4x EF converters and then field testing the gear.

On arriving home I was greeted by 3 Tree Sparrows which increased to five early in the evening - only the second record of this species for the garden. Tree Sparrows are scarce passage migrants in Shetland.

Great Grey Shrike

This stunning Great Grey Shrike was a lovely bird to find during a day-trip to the incredible island of Hoy:

Slavonian Grebes were numerous and always photogenic:

And the opportunities for photographing birds at sunset were also fantastic - far better than Shetland where the hills block all the reflections so quickly!

Orkney Sunsets

HH Images Promoting Shetland

Delighted to see that Promote Shetland have used one of my Otter images taken on Unst as livery on Shetland Transport lorries as part of their 2010 marketing campaign. A 'real' image of the lorry snapped just before launch can be seen here and a story in the local rag can be read here. I'll try and get some portfolio images when the truck arrives back in Shetland!
