Autumn 2012 - and our plans for 2013

What an autumn! We have just completed our series of five sell-out autumn birding trips and what a great time we have had! Once again our travellers got to see an array of superb birds including eastern gems like Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler, Lanceolated Warblers, Pechora Pipit, Paddyfield Warbler, Blyth's Reed Warbler, several Olive-backed Pipits. Siberian Stonechat, Isabelline Shrike, Great Reed Warbler and several Little Buntings. From North America came Surf Scoter, Spotted Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, American Golden Plover, Buff-breasted Sandpiper and several Pectoral Sandpipers. We also enjoyed a stunning Hornemann's Redpoll plus several Red-breasted Flycatchers, Common Rosefinches, Barred Warblers, Lapland Buntings, Snow Buntings and probably no less than 50 Yellow-browed Warblers!

And who can forget the absolutely amazing display of the Aurora Borealis?

Thanks to all those who joined us - we welcomed many new faces and it was a pleasure to welcome back so many repeat travellers.

Shetland really is THE place to witness autumn migration in the UK and get to see some truly stunning birds in stunning settings. So join us in 2013. Once again, we have five trips on offer:

2013 Photography Workshops

A quick update on our series of 2013 photography workshops...
Finland & Arctic Norway in March has sold out, as has Hungary Bird Photography in late April. We still have a few places on our series of Focus on Shetland workshops running in June 2013. They offer outstanding opportunities to photograph an array of breeding plumaged waders and seabirds such as Red-necked Phalarope, Storm Petrel, Red-throated Diver, Black Guillemot, Great & Arctic Skua plus seals, arctic alpines, Otters, a good chance of Killer Whales - and stunning Shetland landscapes!
Our groups are limited to six, we use two hotels in our itinerary to reduce daily travel time and thus gain maximum photographic time in the field, and, unlike others, we charter boats to the prime seabird colonies to ensure maximum photographic opportunities.
Let us show you why we do it better than anybody else and why we don't need to hire pho-tour guides from outside of Shetland, who, on their once-a-year visit are perhaps more interested in getting images for themselves, than for you.
All the details are HERE and if you want to take shots like these squabbling Black Guillemots, come and join us - you won't be disappointed...

Tuesday, 6 November 2012

We have had good numbers of Waxwings here in Shetland over the last week or so.

I was keen to try and get images of birds in flight.
